December 31, 2029. That’s the date Microsoft has set to officially end support for Dynamics GP. While limited security updates will continue into 2031, the reality is clear—Dynamics GP is on its final stretch. As this date approaches, many GP customers and partners are asking the same question: What’s next?
I’m Mark Munson, President and VP of Business Development at ACE Microtech, and this is a conversation I’ve been having almost daily with our clients. With more than 20 years supporting distribution companies and a strong base of Dynamics GP customers, ACE Micro has a front-row seat to the concerns, questions, and opportunities facing the GP community today.
Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a shift in how customers are approaching their ERP strategy. Some are cautious, weighing the costs of moving off GP. Others are excited about what’s possible in the cloud. Either way, the conversations almost always circle back to the same themes:
- The Pulse of Dynamics GP Users – Many customers still rely heavily on GP—it’s familiar, stable, and gets the job done. But with the sunset date approaching, there’s a growing sense of urgency. Companies know they can’t wait until 2029 to start planning.
- Dynamics GP vs. Dynamics 365 Business Central – Business Central is Microsoft’s future, and it brings capabilities GP never offered: seamless cloud access, AI-driven insights, tighter integrations with Office 365, and modern reporting tools. I often tell customers—this isn’t just an upgrade; it’s a transformation of how you operate.
- Exploring Non-Microsoft Alternatives – While most of our conversations center around Business Central, some customers are curious about other platforms. We look at them together, but the reality is that Microsoft has invested heavily in Business Central, and its roadmap aligns closely with the needs of distributors and mid-market firms.
- Building a Cloud Transition Strategy – Moving to the cloud doesn’t happen overnight. The best approach is phased, tailored to each customer’s business processes, integrations, and budget. At ACE Micro, we focus on readiness assessments, pilots, and structured roadmaps that minimize risk and maximize ROI.
- The Role of AI in the Future – AI is no longer a buzzword—it’s practical. From automating repetitive tasks to surfacing predictive insights for decision-making, AI is embedded in the Business Central platform. For customers making the leap, AI will play a critical role in shaping more efficient, data-driven organizations.
For me, the conversation isn’t just about migrating software—it’s about helping companies reimagine their business with modern tools. At ACE Micro, our mission has always been to build clients for life, and guiding customers through this once-in-a-generation ERP transition is at the heart of that mission.
I hope you find this informal conversation helpful and insightful.
